Media Toolbox

Current data from the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research identifies that violent crime is stable or falling in most categories however the potential for victims to be traumatised by media coverage continues to be a challenge.

The media plays a crucial role in ensuring the voices of victims are heard and it is of critical importance that those reporting on the justice system treat victims with sensitivity and respect for their trauma and experiences.

Our aim with this section of the website is to provide resources to the media to assist in dealing with victims.  This online companion will highlight the importance of sensitive reporting to reduce the risk of victims suffering further trauma.

The resource will also provide local and international research on issues relating to the media reporting on victims of crime.

The website will outline changes to the extent, nature and quality of media reporting in New South Wales and provide updates to legislative changes that will impact upon the lives of victims of crime.

Please contact us with any feedback or ideas for other resources that may be useful. We will be adding to this section continuously and any suggestions would be most welcome.
