Source International Review of Victimology, online before print 2 March 2015, pp. 1-15
Date 2015
Document type Journal article
Coverage Sweden
Summary The article aims to discuss the importance of understanding how people are perceived by victims support services, both as supporters and victims, and emphasises the use of categories and how they are conceptualised. The categorical pairs in relation to age and gender are used for this study, focusing on external factors male-female, young-old and internal factors of victim-supporter. For the study material was used from a study conducted in 2009 with 12 focus groups conducted with victim support organisations. The authors aimed to better understand how both parties are influenced by the categorisation of victims and service providers and to develop a better practice where victims needs are met on a more individual level that are reflective of their situation.
