Summary The paper is an in-depth discussion on the benefits of organisations incorporating a culture of evaluation and research. It provides practical insight into actions that can be taken to create, implement and sustain evaluation and research in an organisation in order to ensure professional development in the delivery of programs and services in relation to children, families and communities. A number of tools are suggested for organisations to use to assess their readiness for cultural change, including a readiness for organisational learning and evaluation instrument, and an organisational audit for evidence-informed practice. Guidance is also given on developing a plan for cultural change, with suggestions on creating a vision for evaluation and research, engaging stakeholders, building and developing capacity and developing organisational support systems.
