Summary This research study was commissioned by the Manitoba Seniors and Healthy Aging Secretariat to seek out public attitudes and awareness of abuse and/or neglect of older adults and awareness of the related legislation. A second aim was to review existing legislation and service provision. The recommendations in the report are in four main areas. It is recommended that the legislation be reviewed and priority areas identified for consideration include mandatory and voluntary reporting and mandatory investigation. The second area is service provision and it is recommended that a position paper be produced regarding the development of a full-time Seniors' Advocate and a team of trained professionals be established along with the development of associated services. The third area of recommendations concerns increased training of service providers and increased public awareness. It is also recommended that funding is provided to facilitate ongoing data collection and future analysis.
