Summary This article seeks to explore how mothers perceive the impact of intimate partner violence on children, where those children were witnesses to the violence, or the mother experienced the violence during pregnancy.   The researchers surveyed 137 help-seeking women in Norway, interviewing them during a twelve month period in 2005 - 2006.    Findings included that the severity of physical and sexual violence increased the risk to the foetus, the frequency of physical and psychological violence increased the likelihood of the children being exposed and the duration of the partnership increased the risk of children's exposure to the violence.
