History of child protection services

Author(s) Lamont, Alister & Leah Bromfield
Title History of child protection services
Source National Child Protection Clearinghouse, October, 2010
Date 2010
Document type Resource Sheet
Coverage Australia
Summary The resource sheet provides a brief insight into the establishment of child protection services across the United Kingdom and the United States and how these influences led to the establishment of child protection bodies in Australia. The paper further discusses child protection developments over the course of time and how current practices within each state now operate as a result of these developments. More recent developments in Australia have recognised that protecting children should not rely on statutory child protection services alone and should involve an interagency approach, together with the involvement of families and communities.
