Victims of Crime and the Court Process

One of the priority research areas for the Victims of Crime Research Fund concerns support for victims of crime and their participation in the court process.

Below are some sample questions that Victims Services consider important in this priority research area.

  • How does the court process affect victims of crime?

  • Do victims of crime feel that they are active participants in the court process?

  • What aspects of the court process to victims of crime find particularly helpful or unhelpful?

  • Do their expectations change after the court process is finished?

  • Does their experience of the court process impact whether they are likely to report crime in the future?  Would they participate in a court process again?

  • Do victims of crime think that there is a more satisfactory alternative to court?
