Summary This chapter provides an overview of victims' rights in the USA and it is shown that not all states have the same range of rights. For example about 10 states give victims the right to submit information at bail hearings and nearly 40 states give victims the right to a separate and secure waiting area at court. Legislative amendments for victims rights are briefly considered and it is noted that all states provide legal rights for victims as part of their statutory codes with 32 states guaranteeing rights as part of the state constitutions. There is a further discussion of implementation problems associated with crime victims' rights and the need for further more targeted research to distinguish where victims may have been denied their rights.
